Is Heat one of the greatest movies ???

Is it as good or better than Die Hard or Aliens ??

What you think

I think it is
Not a fair comparison since those movies you mentioned are grossly overrated IMO.

Heat is ok I guess, it depends on the mood. It has re-watchability but not one I would say to someone who has not seen it "hey, want to watch a great movie"? That is the standard bar, a recommendation when hanging out with someone and willing to watch it again with them.

What about matrix and gladiator

Isn't Burt Reynolds in that?
:auiqs.jpg:Not that one. But, you knew that, we all knew you knew it, that is why it was a good joke, for those of us that appreciate "dad Joke"humor.:D

Heat is in your top 10

I really can't say, I don't think I ever heard of the movie. Let me watch it first before I really give you a serious response, but at least the plot sounds promising, however, I think I would have reversed the leading roles making Pacino the head bad guy and put DeNiro in the role of the frustrated police captain.

Well, I've been rather too busy to watch much film these past few years but you're kind of in luck, Q:

I just checked my master movie archive and it appears I actually, already have the movie though I don't remember ever watching it.

So there is a small chance if I fire up some serious movie watching this year, I just might relent to checking it out.

I mean, say what you want about the guy's bad politics but when DeNiro shuts the hell up and just acts, I've never seen him in a single thing I didn't like.

I think my favorite DeNiro film was actually 'Midnight Run' where he played an ex-cop bounty hunter out to bring Charles Grodin in before the mob can kill him. Actually, the comic relief of the film was played between DeNiro and this black FBI officer played by Yaphet Kotto over a recurring theme involving a pair of FBI-issue sunglasses. As usual, DeNiro plays it with comic brilliance.

I liked about everything in the movie. It does everything it is supposed to in the genre/purpose it was made for.
The little squirt Tom Cruise answered a reporters question that asked him - with all of his talents, do you ever feel you are wasting them on movies that don't mean anything. (Paraphrase)
Cruise answered - "I make movies that entertain people. That is all I want to do. That is the only goal" - not a direct quote.
I think Cruise is a sniveling asshole. But his answer was perfect. Movies like Heat exist to entertain - nothing else.

You can tell how much I liked a movie by whether or not I bought the DVD.

It's a very high bar. I have very few DVDs.

I own Heat on DVD.

It's one of my top 10, that's for sure.

The gunfight scene after the bank robbery is one of the best shootout scenes in movies ever.

They aren't trying to kill the cops, they are trying to escape, creating a fire zone to allow for that escape. Just masses of bullets flying to clear a path for them.

All good and all very different. I would not know how to compare them.

Die Hard is a action thriller that redefined the genre, by replacing the invincible superhero with an everyday guy who manages against all odds to save the day.

Heat is stylish crime drama , a very stylish character driven cat and mouse game.

Alien is an excellent horror masquerading as a Sci-Fi.

They all excellent and very different.
