For all of Trump's standard bluster about NATO, I'm beginning to think that NATO would be better off without us.

They clearly can't trust Trump, who is transactional only, who doesn't worry about relationship-building, who has regularly expressed admiration for tyrants and dictators, who cannot be trusted with foreign intelligence, and who has said many negative things about the organization. And now, it looks like Tulsi Gabbard, a person viewed as a significant risk by our (former) allies, will be our new National Intelligence Director, and the FOX propagandist may be "leading" our military.

Just cut the ties before the USA does any more damage. America Alone. Our (former) allies are going to do it unofficially, anyway. They're not going to share sensitive intelligence with us, so what's the point?

By all means please do! It would save us billions a year in wasted war mongering.

NATO was an American tool in their struggle against the Soviet Union in Europe. Now, it is their tool in confronting Russia and influencing the European continent.

You got it upside down. War mongering exists in itself, and NATO in its current form is derivative form that, not vice versa.

Look at American insane military budget. It is the biggest corruption scheme that America will ever know.

What makes it ironic? You don’t know what the word means.

Nato is no longer just a self-defense organization. It would appear they have a vested interest in destabilizing and trying to overthrow Russia. Russia is apparently aware of this. Now I'm not saying that Russia hasn't been unreasonably aggressive in some instances. But then again so has the United States.

Good idea. With the money we pay NATO we could militarized the border.

Either way it would represent an enormous amount of saved money that is currently being spent only for the purpose of destabilizing other governments. NATO may have had a real purpose at one time but it has certainly meandered away from its original mission statement.

It was a self-defense organization at the Cold War. Now, it is an expansionist organization whose sole goal is projection of force.

For some people it would be lost money.

@justoffal @80zephyr

Do not forget to tell your master Putin to end his stupid, senseless and criminal war on Europe in the Ukraine. Leave the Ukraine with all of your soldiers. Yesterday.

You pay no money to the NATO ... better to say the NATO budget is only about $1-2 billion. You pay much less money to this budget as you think to do. Germany for example pays the same as you do. First of all you are paying for your own army. And so is doing every other member of the NATO. The NATO is only a defence alliance.
