So even more than before a deal is not possible, because no one has the authority to make a deal. If the Cardboard Mullah comes out of his coma, or grows his arms and legs back or some other way is able to strike a deal, the local commanders will have no reason to accept it. They can roam the countryside taxing, raping, and conscripting the cowed Iranian civilians until they are destroyed.
What we have to understand is that we can defeat those local commands, but it will involve destroying many of those civilians ourselves, giving them the ultimate liberation.
I hope Trump has the stomach for that.
