Interwar (1922) Rock Island Arsenal M1903 Rifle

I picked this one up yesterday....Pretty worn but it has a nice strong bore.

The stock, while dark is solid.

RIA 4-22 barrel

Then there is this big U-133 stamped into the stock.

The US Navy used to mark the stocks like that, a different code for each vessel so it's just a matter of finding out which vessel used a U code....I have a guy checking his database to try to find it.

I am old enough to remember when discount department stores were selling O3-A3s for about $20.00. If you picked through their stock you could find nice ones.

LOL.....There's a fancy Mall in NOtVA called Tyson's Croner Mall and they had a Woolworths, if you used the back entrance you could smell the cosmoline from the surplus rifles they sold there at the time when you walked thorough the door......Talk about out of place!

Sigh, it was another era.
