Yep. Not only still getting tests, but I talked to somebody on this board earlier this week, afraid to go out, that he might pickup Covid and give it to older adults in family, afraid, if he did, he would be responsible for killing them. These folks are out there, in more ways than one.
Is the fear of giving voluntary DNA testing results to private companies, while taking a Covid test valid? Maybe, depending on your level of paranoia. Data becomes the property of the company processing the test, protected from breach of anonymity (to an extent), by HIPPA , but as a class group, not so much. We are aware data has been sold to others in the industry for a variety of purposes. There is nothing that precludes selling to some organization, that might be able to use it against a genetically similar class of people, and that probably includes foreign governments, I am aware of. As for the family genealogy people, I do not think there are many restraints on the sale of their data, and it is of interest to law enforcement, that may be prevented of collecting it, themselves, but not blocked from buying data for sale, others have compiled, as far as I know.
I have not done (and probably won't) the genealogy people, but not highly paranoid about it. Not paranoid about the Covid tests that go to labs, either, though I was ordered to do the serum test by the country board of health. I was negative for Covid at the time, but positive for the antibodies, having had a stiff bout with Covid before. For me, it got me out of ordered isolation. It also influenced me to donate convalescent plasma, specifically, as it was thought useful at the time.
