The consumer price index, a key inflation gauge, rose 2.9% in August from a year earlier, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday.


That’s an increase from 2.7% in July and the fastest annual pace of inflation since January.

“Inflation is uncomfortably high and it’s accelerating,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s. “I think we should expect a further acceleration in inflation over the next six to 12 months.”

Good news this morning: U.S. wholesale inflation rate fell in August even as upward price pressures persisted

So while supply chains are under pressure to increase prices, they've been able to absorb increased costs so far. There are two or three other things they may be doing as well, but right now supply chains are holding.

Also, if this holds, it would make it easier for the Fed to cut rates. Bessent wants to run this hot, so we'll see how this goes. Fingers crossed.

Remember, we have a trade imbalance with other countries the same way you have a trade imbalance with your barber. Your barber never spends any money with you. How unfair huh? And the hair product company he buys from. They never come in for haircuts.

The other thing I'd like to point out. Other countries aren't wrong to have tariffs on things they want their citizens to buy internally. They are protecting their economies. We should have and should do that too. To certain industries. Certain products. Cars, weapons, medicine, chips, Iphones if possible, food, etc. Not EVERYTHING. You don't tariff EVERYTHING. Or ask other countries to not tariff anything. They would be stupid to go along with that.

Remember Republicans ran on groceries and getting prices down day one. While also raising wages.

Supply chains have raised their prices every year since the Covid overeaction.
Despite what you all hope, wholesale prices have not really been affected, just a fact. They have not went up or down in any significant way.

Yesterday I heard something interesting. Like my dumb boss who STILL thinks Trump will be better for the economy, a lot of people are still clinging to that notion. But now ask them who would do better with bringing prices down and Democrats win that argument.

Remember the stock market was great under Biden too but last year MAGA didn't want to hear that.

Trump is falling victim the same way Biden did for high prices. He should too. He talked a lot of shit about how he'd do better. And his policies have RAISED prices despite him saying they haven't.
