Yeah, paint balls hurt like hell. I had one hit me on my bare skin.

I would imagine whether or not it hurts depends on a few factors, from the type of pellets used to how fast the guns are set. In paintball, at least, you can adjust the velocity the balls are fired at; I don't see why the same wouldn't be true with airsoft guns.

If they drew blood and left welts, yeah, I'd imagine it hurt. It sounds somewhat like a he said, she said situation from the article, though.
