Obviously the smart move. The response to the wildfires has been absurdly incompetent.

But cannot even Democrats agree that it would have been far smarter to fire this incompetent chief years ago, or better to not even have hired her for reasons of diversity and equity?

I won't say "inclusion" because making a pre-determination that no white, Asian or Jewish, straight male is qualified is the opposite of inclusion. But, thanks to the power of Doublethink, liberals are able to make themselves comfortable with those contradictory ideas.

The mayor was just as incompetent. Once the fire chief was critical of the mayor it was only a matter of time until the mayor got her revenge, but she is just as clueless, maybe even more so.

Good point!

Even the clueless can see that hiring people based on demographics leads to incompetence.

You don't know whether or not the fire chief was at fault, nor do you know any particulars that you can specifically attach to her performance.

But it doesn't matter, if you're a woman or black, it must be DEI. Maybe the chief was hampered by what the city was providing, or not providing. Not allocating money for resources is a thing.

Well for one thing, I know that she did not make sure that fire hydrants were inspected and tested to ensure that water would actually come out.

When you have a governor who literally values a tiny fish over human lives and homes, such sanity checks are absolutely needed.

But it doesn't matter, if you're a woman or black, it must be DEI.
I’ll admit DEI is my first thought when I see a woman or a “trans woman” or a black put in a position of responsibility, my first thought is that they did not have to be competent to get the job. Certainly not the MOST qualified.

It’s possible they ARE the best for the job, but that would be a coincidence in that the most DEI hire happened to be the best for the job,

But who set that situation up? You did. You and your fellow Dems.

Of course! As in my hydrant example. The Chief should have lived up to the title and spoken up. Likely she was picked specifically because she agreed about the fish, along with the identity politics.

If the voters return this mayor and this governor to power, they will get more of the same.

While maybe the chief needed to be fired, Karen Bass is just finding a scapegoat to take the heat off herself.
