Cartoon depictions of Muhammad evidently have the power to incite anger and violence among some Muslims based on their belief that there are strict religious proscriptions against physical depictions of the Prophet. What is the basis for this belief? An extreme interpretation of fundamentalist beliefs.......but not one found anywhere in the Koran. The ideology terrorists use to justify their actions is based on false interpretations of Islam. The Koran does not prohibit pictures of Muhammad; in fact images of Muhammad were very common in 15th and 16th century Persia and Ottoman Turkey.
