LA agency to raise water rates because of conservation

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles residents who conserved water during the drought will be paying more for using less.
The Los Angeles Daily News (LA DWP, other utilities to raise water rates because of drought ) says the Department and Water and Power board voted Tuesday to hike rates 4 percent in January because the utility lost money due to conservation.
The DWP estimates it received around $111 million less than expected in the last fiscal year because customers used about 10 percent less water than expected.
The hike will increase the average residential monthly bill from around $50 to $51.53. But the DWP says with less water being used, most customers will still pay less per month than in 2014.
