The two party system mostly works well enough, while we can still afford political parties. We need at least a second party to provide alternatives and balance when one party gets lost in its own echo chambers. Without the Democrats, the Republicans would be going berserk with far right actions that the middle consistently rejects. Without the Republicans, the Democrats would be going berserk with far left actions. Both parties act like the other party is crazy, reckless, or criminal now, but they will probably settle down if the midterm results are conclusive.

Much later, we may drop the parties as unnecessary and unaffordable expenses. That may be after the nation splits apart and new nations write new constitutions with hard limits on government spending.
