I can't think of anything more symbolic of the USA, a broad swath of the citizenry allergic to physical activity. Imagine expecting law enforcement agents to meet basic fitness standards in order to perform a job that's physically daunting. I could stay out drinking all night and still meet these standards with a massive hangover.

President Donald Trump’s plan to double the size of the ICE workforce has met a foe more powerful than any activist group. It is decimating new recruits at the agency’s training academy in Georgia. It is the ICE personal-fitness test.

More than a third have failed so far, four officials told me, impeding the agency’s plan to hire, train, and deploy 10,000 deportation officers by January. To pass, recruits must do 15 push-ups and 32 sit-ups, and run 1.5 miles in 14 minutes.

“It’s pathetic,” one career ICE official told me, adding that before now, a typical class of 40 recruits had only a couple of candidates fail, because the screening process was more rigorous.

Heck, Taz, I'm 71 and can beat those standards. It sounds like a large swath of young people in America are just pussies.

it's bad news, but news people need to hear.

Employment with the federal government generally is a welfare system.

I agree... Why don't we all get this, we're apparently paying for it.

Many federal government employees have a FERS Supplement to bridge the gap to Social Security eligibility, officially called the Special Retirement Supplement (SRS). This is a monthly payment provided by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to certain employees who retire before age 62, until they turn 62, when they can apply for their actual Social Security benefits. Eligibility is not universal, and the supplement is subject to an earnings test.

Key details about the FERS Supplement
  • Purpose: The supplement provides a financial bridge for FERS employees who retire before age 62, as Social Security benefits are not available until then.
  • How it works: It is funded and administered by the federal government, not the Social Security Administration (SSA).
  • Eligibility: Not all FERS employees are eligible. It is designed for those who are eligible for a FERS retirement and retire before age 62.
  • End date: The supplement ends when the recipient turns 62.
  • Earnings test: An earnings test is applied, which can reduce or eliminate the supplement if the retiree earns above a certain threshold from employment. Only "earned income" (like wages) counts toward the limit, not investment income or other retirement benefits.
  • Important note: Legislation in 2025 proposed eliminating the supplement for future retirees, though it would have grandfathered current recipients. The effective date for the proposed change was January 1, 2028.

Sounds like we need some hardworking immigrants to fill these jobs. Oh wait...

Way way too much time playing video games and not enough time outside doing physical activities. So far the two youngest generations are not representing themselves very well.

Well, in a way, Trump did "double" the size of ICE.

There is a way to remedy have fat, lazy, leftist youths. We can put them in mandatory military service at 18 (or even 17), give them a big rifle, and send them overseas to shoot brown people. It will whip them into shape and give them a much better appreciation for the United States.

Soldiers who actually go out into a warzone and soldiers on the other side, they are heroes. To some degree, the support personnel are essential and should also be proud. But the majority of people in the U.S. military are parasites. I do not blame them for being that way; they are just taking advantage of an opportunity given to them. They make good pay in the service for what they do, get a very generous pension and health insurance for life when they put in 20 or more years. Many then are assimilated into federal civil service (i.e., the welfare state) where they will draw a paycheck, then retire and draw TWO federal pensions. All the while, they never killed a man, liberated a town, or razed a hospital in enemy land. Oh, and do not question them about their RIGHT to their pay. They will kill to, scratch, claw and do whatever to get "what is rightfully theirs". It is too bad they never levy such self-righteousness toward our enemies.

I love our military. But it is being shamefully taken advantage of by leeches and parasites.

They need to put down their joysticks and go out into the woods and kill something.

Under a dimocrap president all those fat pukes would have been accepted into Service provided they fit the 'right' profile.......

Under an American President, they're finding out that just showing up doesn't get you a Gold Star. You have to earn it.

Those requirements are juvenile

You dont seem to be following.

The screening process was loosened under Trump, leading to this result.

Following, now?

I once spoke to a German national that was making the point that Americans were the only people in the world that would use a drive up window at McD's to avoid walking in, and order a Big Mac, super sized fries and a DIET COKE. LOL. I had to agree with him.

I should think a German would appreciate the efficiency, however
