Used a gift card to pay for it. Not too bad, but I still like the 2000 TNT one better. There some differences with the 2000 TNT version, this new movie focused on Dr Doug Kelly who was not mentioned in the 2000 TNT movie. Thought Brian Cox was better as Goring than Russell Crowe, but Crowe did okay with the role.

I was wondering how Fat Russell did in it, they claim he really studies for his roles.

In Master and Commander he even learned the violin movements for those scenes.

In "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World," Russell Crowe learned to play the violin for his role, calling it the hardest thing he'd ever done for a film. He did not actually play the violin himself, but he accurately represented the movements on screen. The violin solos in certain scenes were performed by professional musician Richard Tognetti, who provided authentic performances.

I want to see this movie but the purchase price to rent is $25 Canadian.

I will have to pass for now as I am quite frugal on such items when they will be on Netflix or Prime in the future. When one is persecuted in their country they must cut expenses.

Russell Crowe is one of the great film actors of our time, and his portrayal of Hermann Goering is no exception. The rest of the characters were a freak show. The Nuremberg Trials were no better than the political show trials held in the 1930s.

Have you seen Judgment at Nuremberg (1961)? It is an excellent film boasting a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, nominated for 11 academy awards. It is a courtroom drama featuring an all-star cast (Spencer Tracy, Maximilian Schell, Burt Lancaster) that tackles the difficult themes of Nazi war crimes, personal accountability, and justice with a balanced yet sobering approach.

It is widely considered Stanley Kramer's best movie. Most moviegoers today might consider the 3 hr 15 mins too long. It drags in a few places but all in all it is an excellent film with a number of standout performances by some of the best actors of the day.

Oh yes I have seen that movie several times. Very well done and some good supporting actors like William Shatner, Richard Widmark, Werner Klempner (Col Klink of Hogan's Heros) and Marlene Dietrich, Montgomery Clift among others.

Is it worth watching? They they it is a great distortion of history.

Entertaining movies are never completely accurate. If they were, they would be a documentary. I remember a discussion of the accuracy of Judgement at Nuremberg. The movie is referred to as a docudrama. Courtroom scenes were fictionize. Almost all characters were based on real people, while some of script is very close to the trial transcripts much of it was pure fiction.

Many people claim the movie is accurate because it correctly captures the shift in American priorities during the early Cold War, where political pressure mounted to avoid punishing German officials too severely. Also, the movie accurately captures the era's legal dilemmas, political pressures, and chilling evidence of Nazi atrocities.

I noticed that the first question many people ask about a movie capturing a historical event is how accurate is the movie. If you are going to a movie to be entertained, the question should be about entertainment value, not historical accuracy.

I agree on the entertainment argument but add that it does not require to ignore the history.

A director decides on his priorities long before shooting begins. One director may decide that accurate in presentation takes priority , while another may choose to sacrifice accuracy for entertainment value.

I believe most directors emphasize entertainment value over accuracy simple because the priority of most moviegoers is entertainment.

I agree. Particularly when they totally change everything that it barely represents reality.
When they do that, the title shouldn't be "Nuremburg" - it should be "A tale of Nuremburg".
They know what they are doing. Calling the movie Nuremburg makes people think it is a history piece. Sure, people expect events to be switched a bit, obviously dialogue will be imagined etc. And even embellish here and there. But to simply make up a story with real characters and don't tell anyone it is just a story - is irresponsible. Because a lot of people are not smart enough to know it is make believe - and then think this is what happened.

That depends on goal of the director.

Documentary implies the highest level accuracy (no fiction included)
Based on a true story implies a tighter connection to reality but still frequently alters facts, merges characters, and invents scenes to heighten drama.
Inspired by true events generally indicates a looser, more fictionalized interpretation where only a core idea or, at most, one or two events are taken from reality.

When a director uses the words "literary license" it can mean completely changing characters timelines, and outcomes to make the story more compelling.

The title Life of Abraham Lincoln
should not be construed to be factual in any way.

The primary purpose of movies is to entertain, not to educate.

Or a license to rewrite history. Again, a lot of people are not smart enough to realize this is what they did.
An example - Aeronauts. Today they now call it an "Adventure Story" - after the families of the real people complained. They were led to believe the story would reflect what happened when they were interviewed, gave rights.
They literally replaced one of the two men with a woman, a real woman, who was also a balloonist. Then they made the actual hero, the man they left in it, and made him look like a fool and a complete coward. And gave all the accolades to the woman for saving him, and doing the recordings that changed how weather was forecast forever. A woman, who there is no record of having even met the two real heroes.
You can sat whatever you want, but that is irresponsible. They are well aware that people will not know it is a complete fiction.

The Aeronauts (2019) is historical fiction inspired by the true 1862 balloon flight of scientist James Glaisher and pilot Henry Coxwell. Haven't seen Aeronauts but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the director taken literary license to produce to produce a more dramatic and entertaining film.
The movie is clearly advertised as inspired by actual invent and we no right to complain that the movie is not factual when that was never the intent of director and it was so advertised.

Crowe was excellent in the match vie.

Good script. Good acting Al the way around.

I’d recommend that movie to one and all.

Meh - you would have a problem if they replaced the 4 black female mathematicians during WW II - with white males.
No difference.
Again - in the original promotions - that they have since rewritten - they very much implied it was the story of the balloonist who changed weather forecasting forever - saving countless lives. The "An adventure story" was not how they promoted it.
Imagine being the family of the real heroic people - when you watch the movie, they replace one of them and make the other look like a fool.
Bad taste.

Inspired by true events- "Inspired by true events" indicates a film, book, or story that uses real-life occurrences, people, or settings as a loose foundation or inspiration, rather than a strict, factual retelling. It suggests the story is mostly fictionalized, taking significant creative liberties with the facts to enhance drama, emotion, or narrative flow."
