1980's

My granny lived in a small E. Texas town. There was a white guy and his black wife.
I found them very interesting. Most of the town would ignore them, so they kept to themselves.
But I heard the gossipmongers in the stores when they saw these people out shopping.

Weird thing is.........the gossip was all positive.
She was "very sweet and lovely", and he was "very smart and intelligent".
And both of them seemed to leave long lasting impressions on people who ever engaged with them.

So.......WHY were they shunned by most people?
They were "hippies". And just because of THIS, they were treated like outcasts.
NOT because they were black and white, but because they were remnants of a previous culture war.
