Move to Amend: End Corporate Rule. Legalize Democracy.
On January 21, 2010, with its ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Supreme Court ruled that corporations are persons, entitled by the U.S. Constitution to buy elections and run our government.

Human beings are people; corporations are legal fictions.

We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United and other related cases, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

The Supreme Court is misguided in principle, and wrong on the law. In a democracy, the people rule.

We Move to Amend.
". . . corporations have no consciences, no beliefs, no feelings, no thoughts, no desires. Corporations help structure and facilitate the activities of human beings, to be sure, and their 'personhood' often serves as a useful legal fiction. But they are not themselves members of “We the People” by whom and for whom our Constitution was established."

In a democracy, the people rule.
i've recently heard a pretty compelling constitutional argument in the "republic or democracy" controversy.

the founders did not write "we the representatives" or "the independent state legislatures."

the very forst words

"We, the People"

The way to end corporate rule is to take the money out of politics and have public funding of all campaigns... no more donations and no more rich donors that get all the attention from politicians...

Or elect outsiders like Trump....

I think it should be revisited....I don't see either Barrett or Gorsich going for it.

Hell the people that run corperations are baerly people for the most part.

No fuckin' way Zukerberg is even human.

May I assume the people who oppose corporations -- groups of people banded together for a common purpose -- donating to candidates and parties also oppose labor unions -- groups of people banded together for a common purpose -- donating to candidates and parties?

The Constitution confers legal personhood on corporations. Start your amendment process.

The US needs to change its political system.

Have Proportional Representation for the House and the Senate. Have the executive taken with bipartisan support and put at least 7 people on it. The Supreme Court should also be chosen with bipartisan support.

Then, maybe the US won't be batshitcrazy

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) is an agreement among a group of U.S. states and the District of Columbia to award all their electoral votes to whichever presidential ticket wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Subverts the electoral college.

National Popular Vote https://www.nationalpopularvote.com › written-explanati...

One-page explanation (PDF) The National Popular Vote law will guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states .

Corporations aren't the enemy. They produce the goods and services that we need to stay alive. The S.C. found that corporations have the same rights to contribute to a candidate as an individual. Live with it and quit whining.

Yep, it was a shit decision.

No, it wasn't. the opposite would mean government could silence people just because the money came from a corporate source.

People still make up corporations.

They aren't treated as fully persons, they are just constructed as such to allow them to operate as a construct.

Hell the biggest reason is to be able to sue their asses if something goes wrong instead of having to prove individuals did certain acts.

Glaringly unconstitutional as it denies the majority in a given State the person they voted for.

Can you imagine your anger if Harris say won NY by 70% but Trump took all the EV's due to him winning the National vote?

Show some common sense....Sure, people make-up corporations but a corporation is not a person.

And why does it matter where the money come from if it all comes from people in the end?

Citizens United was needed to prevent the left from silencing political speech it didn't like via how it's paid for.

Meanwhile I'm sure Unions and lefty groups would have been allowed to continue. It would have given the left another selective method of controlling speech.

"People" were limited as to what they could donate, and they had to be on public record.

Now it's a redirection of .gov grift into PACs along with billionaires also funding PACs.

It's piss poor for the Republic.

They weren't held to anything before, there were still plenty of ways to hide donations.

And any fix would be worse than the problem, because it would weaponize the government even more against speech it doesn't like.

Which is interesting as literally nothing about corporations exists in the Constitution.

Same as for phones, fax machines, automobiles, trade unions, and political parties, and yet here they are.
