The Art of Gossip
From US Press Wire:
"A group of youngsters chaperoned by a layman activist who obtained school field trip passes to a public-open BP (British Petroleum) consumer-market convention were instructed by their precocious chaperone to walk around the convention and pickpocket whatever they could from various attendees. The next day, when people noticed what had happened and the story was leaked into the press, the youngsters wrote into their local newspaper with the group comment, 'It seems that either no one cares about eco-issues today or there are wayward crooks running around in an under-monitored valuable government field.'"
Were the youngsters actually a gang of thieves led by a proverbial Fagin in a bizarre act of eco-terrorism, or was their relatively non-destructive gesture symbolic of people-intensive modern politics?
Vigilantism sentiments seem to have been rising since the Taliban attacks on 9/11 destabilized everyday securities regarding homeland security and police force effectiveness.
Some social critics suggest that consumerism can be turned around to the favor of the everyday man. The social marketing of water guns could, in theory, detract people from violence and return 'artistic' social dialogue to the domain of creative and constructive thinking. We need more wisdom regarding 'street-politics marketing.'
