How many Americans really know the history of civil liberty abusers? The Gestapo, Stasi, KGB, East Bloc? How many appreciate U.S Exceptionalism?

In Canada we aren't really taught this so it does require personal curiousity, a trait I have in spades.

Are Americans well informed? I get the feeling that the history of communism and the Eastern abuses have been purposely restricted from education in the West because so many understand what it could mean for their power ideology, or, Big Business investment in China if people ask more questions.

It's time for capitalism based on human rights and freedom to return to the West. No more looking away. Call out the abuses by China as a reason to apply tariffs against their goods, ditto for Europe, Canada and any other nation that is not transparent or accountable. Any nations that does not allow proper access to justice, due process etc is NOT an ally of America and must not be blindly subsidized any longer.

So, how informed are Americans of the evil history that was dominant before the falling of the wall and the extension of it in China, N Korea, Russia and elsewhere today?

You aren't well informed. America has been a prime abuser of civil liberties.

Liberty and Freedom are concepts for which little viable metric applies.....~S~

Concepts which are either put into practice and loyalty defended or our species will perish.

What's old is new again and it is rising in countries who were supposed to have evolved after decades of American support for economies, instead they express outrage that they need to do their part now since America cannot risk going bankrupt.

Another dumb post, eh.

Well it certainly wasn't restricted in my day.
We watched Nazis bulldozing bodies into mass graves in 8th grade.
We learned about Hitler, Nazism, and all his main cohorts n stuff.
You know, Mengele, Goebbels, Himmler, Goering, and his tank dude.

Yes, but is it taught today?

I learned a little bit about WWII on my own while in High School, the subject matter was not specifically taught. Ditto for communism although it was better force fed in various shows, news and broadcasts. We were raised to despise the abusers of citizens and the Berlin Wall and Eastern Bloc were well known and from the '72 Canada Cup and famous Russian spies who were recruited in Montreal and eventually transferred to CIA/FBI control, this was a time of "us vs them, capitalism vs communism".

The horrible idea to allow China into the WTO caused our decline. In turn it greatly harmed international agencies and the global order as China was focused on usurping it and replacing it from day one, focusing on greed,.

Judging by the way some communicate, I'm thinking their experience was not the same as mine.
If it isn't being taught today, that never should have stopped.
