It isn’t comparable to Hitler (just like the many Hitler/ Nazi comparisons mouthed by the rightists). It is a cheap insult and a fallacy.
Reductio ad Hitlerum is a type of association fallacy.[5][6] The argument is that a policy leads to—or is the same as—one advocated or implemented by Adolf Hitleror Nazi Germany and so "proves" that the original policy is undesirable.
If you want to make comparisons, Mussolini is a better starting point: a populist fascist without the genocidal policies.
