Thanks for all who have replied. I pray for America - that the rhetoric tones down, the gun violence stops and that I never have to live through another assassination attempt on any public official ever again. I have learned something from all of you - even the negative comments in these threads. Going forward, I will be limiting my visits to this forum. Other hobbies and interests are calling me. I wish future President Trump much success, happiness, long life and prosperity. Thank you.

Upon learning about the assassination attempt on former President Trump, I turned on the television and saw what had happened. It makes me sick and I still feel like throwing up as of right now. From my perspective, this entire country needs to look inward and repent. The rhetoric needs to come down, at least several notches. After all, terms like fascism and dictator are used much too loosely, without folks understanding what those words really mean. No matter how one feels about Trump, no one can possibly enjoy seeing him nearly killed. If one does actually wish ill will on him, one is toxic and deranged - is an Un-American part of the problem, to say the very least. This situation is an opportunity for us all to do the right thing by renouncing and condemning political violence. Donald J Trump is most certainly going to win the election, in my opinion. Let’s do the honorable thing and at least respect the Office. Feeling a little bit better, now that I have posted this. Thanks.

• If you have an X account, call out the media and demand they take action (fire) against those engaging in political hate
• If you have a Facebook or other social media account, same as above - call out the media and demand action
• Stop watching/subscribing to any and all news stations, blogs, etc that takes part in promoting political hate
• Write letters to the major news outlets and tell them to put a stop to the political hate (fire those engaging/promoting it)

I don't think those on the left can tone down their rhetoric. They're simply not going to quit saying that Trump is a tyrant and a dictator who wants to take democracy away. In their opinion, all they are doing is telling the truth, and they don't believe the truth is violent rhetoric. As to your general point, I personally agree but, the fact is, with about 325 million people out there in the country, there are literally millions who are out there on the very fringe on both sides. It's kind of like going to any large city and telling thousands and thousands of gang members that we should just all get along and quit killing each other.
