House GOP Abandons Border Crisis Bill Amid Conservative Opposition

House Republican leaders abruptly pulled their border supplemental legislation prior to a scheduled vote on Thursday, a sign that they lacked the votes to pass it. That means members would go home for recess without acting, a situation that GOP leaders wanted to avoid.

Immigration-weary conservatives said the $659 million supplemental, and the subsequent measure to end the Obama administration's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, didn't go far enough in rebuking the president's actions.

It was a remarkable defeat for the new GOP leadership team on the day that Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) stepped down as majority leader.

Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) announced the decision in a joint statement with his new leadership team, including McCarthy, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) and House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA).

Republican, cabrones!

¡Vete pa’l cará!

Boehner, hijo de puta!

I wonder if you read the bill or you are just taking the opinion of a blogger who hasn't read the bill either? :eusa_whistle:

For once you have a point. The so-called conservative opposition to this bill doesn't make much senses. I skimmed through the bill. It makes no mention of amnesty, path to citizenship or does what the conservative bloggers state, encourage more illegal immigration.

What is does do is provide funds for:
(1) A census (this can be used to determine where they are coming from)
(2) Money to reimburse local and state law enforcement officers that are working on the border
(3) More for more judges to handle the cases
(4) More to reimburse the State National Guard
(5) $40 mil for repatriation of Central American kids
(6) Secure the Border Act '14 - Does little through
(7) Amends the William Wilberforce Trafficking Act to make deportation of children easier.
(8) Weak pledge to secure the border.

I don't see how this hurts. It doesn't do nearly enough, but it's step in the right direction.

Again I wonder if you read the bill before stating this. Yes it doesn't do nearly enough, but it doesn't hurt at all. Doesn't encourage more illegals from coming, funds state national guardsman and local and state law enforcement activities on the border.

It could be called extreme for opposing a step in the right direction, because it's not 20 ft long jump!

Republicans say that Obama is extreme and they are fighting to keep him in check. They hate his bill, they hate the dems bill so they come up with their own bill.

Republicans hate their own parties bill too.

Almost as if, nothing is acceptable to them. They made the bill, nurtured it, helped it take its first steps then strangled it.

And they still blame Obama

Segments of the party made the bill and a segment of the party is against the bill. Take that together with the entire Democratic party voting against bill without probably ever reading it and you have a bill that wouldn't make it through the house.

The Republicans lost big here. They look like a party that refuse to do anything, even though they had to have known that once this bill made it to the senate, Harry Reid would have tabled the bill!
