A new development: It seems like Islamic militants are holding hostages in a cafe in Sydney.

More than a dozen hostages are being held inside a central Sydney, Australia cafe where a black flag with white Arabic writing could be seen in the window, local television showed on Monday, raising fears of an attack linked to Islamic militants.

Australia, which is backing the United States and its escalating action against Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, is on high alert for attacks by radicalized Muslims or by home-grown fighters returning from fighting in the Middle East.

I do not think we are there yet. The rage you see is mostly coming from bigots. They are not necessarily against militant Islam. They are just against all dark skinned people.

I watched two counter terrorism experts discuss this.

One an Aussie, was measured and rational. Saying we don't know what this is, it could be a lone wolf attack or something more sinister. We need more facts.

The other Joe Syracusa, an American cracked me up.

He said to the effect

"This has to be a botched job. What kind of terrorist takes Lint chocolate store? What did he go for a hot chocolate and some jihad? This is a botched job and he is having a very bad day."
