Storm came through and took down some hard maple burl and black walnut...and I'm always needing wood for handles and such...so figured I'd give this a try.

Skun the bark and sealed the ends with shellac.

We'll know if it worked in six month or so.

As small as those pieces are it shouldnt take long.
BBQ wood will dry to an acceptable level in one season and the pieces are way bigger.

Good deal. I want too make some chisels in the fall.

I should be seasoning some BBQ wood. Never really thought about it...just been buying prepared chips at the store. Plenty of maple and persimmons in fence rows.

Going to have to use something other than shellac. Lots of end checking...but not very deep...
