The Guidelines for Protecting Schools and Universities from Military Use during Armed Conflict and other international legal and policy efforts aim to deter the military use of schools and ensure that they remain places of study and safety for children, even during war.
The Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack
GCPEA is an inter-agency coalition established in 2010 by organizations working in the field of
education in emergencies and conflict-affected contexts. Organizations comprising GCPEA include
those focused on higher education, protection, international human rights and humanitarian law, all of
whom are concerned about ongoing attacks on educational institutions, their students and staff, in
countries affected by armed conflict and insecurity.
GCPEA is a project of the Tides Center, a US-based nonprofit organization, and is governed by a Steering Committee made up of the following international organizations:
