Trump signs order pausing enforcement of foreign bribery ban

President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order directing the Department of Justice to pause enforcing a nearly half-century-old law that prohibits American companies and foreign firms from bribing officials of foreign governments to obtain or retain business.

“It sounds good, but it hurts the country,” Trump said of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, as he signed the order at the White House.

“Many, many deals are unable to be made because nobody wants to do business, because they don’t want to feel like every time they pick up the phone, they’re going to jail,” Trump said, referring to U.S. anti-corruption efforts.

A White House official told CNBC, “A pause in enforcement to better understand how to streamline the FCPA to make sure it’s in line with economic interests and national security.”

Trump removes director of government ethics office

President Donald Trump has removed David Huitema as director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, the agency said Monday.

The independent agency, which works to prevent financial conflicts of interest in the executive branch, said it is reverting to an acting director.

Huitema was nominated by former President Joe Biden and confirmed by the Senate in a 50-46 vote on Nov. 14 to serve a five-year term.

The current acting director is Shelley Finlayson, according to OGE’s website.

In a statement after being sworn in in mid-December, Huitema looked ahead to helping Trump’s nominees ensure that they can start working “free from the obstacles caused by potential conflicts of interest, which could prevent them from being effective in their jobs.”

Trump sued after quietly firing top whistleblower protector

President Trump late Friday fired the leader of an office designed to protect government whistleblowers, a detail revealed in a Monday lawsuit from the head of the Office of the Special Counsel (OSC).

Hampton Dellinger, appointed by former President Biden, said he was fired from his post “in a one-sentence email,” a move that violates his appointment to a five-year term in the office.

It took the dogged determination of investigative reporters months to reveal the rot inside the Nixon admin. These guys are putting it out there for all to see.

No wonder Team trump spent so much time prior to the election identifying people who were sufficiently subservient as to go along with what's happening. Cuz patriotic Americans would have already quit.

Geebers. I thought so. Cuz he didn't make a secret of it. I still don't get why you so willingly turn your back on democracy for a piece of shit like trump.

A whopping 70 percent of Americans feel right now that the president is doing what he promised, which is chiefly everything the opposite of what Biden would do.

Immigration laws are being enforced.

Mass deportations are ongoing, with the most vicious and violent illegals being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with other federal agents who have been granted deportation powers.

In comparison, in April 2017, only 46 percent of Americans felt that Trump was doing what he promised.

Inspectors general, fired. Top officials at DoJ who are intimately familiar with the details of trump's criminal acts, fired. Ethics chief, gone. Bribery rules, suspended. Sycophantic, unqualified cabinet secretaries, installed. 40 lawsuits initiated to block illegal aspects of the agenda, filed.

Yup, it's all going exactly as planned.

Democrats have a base made up of gays and whiny, single college-educated women who helm an illiberal, exclusionary, and rigid agenda from which no one wants to join.

The GOP is a multiracial working-class party that will trounce this band of woke soy boys every day, all day.

Slow news day? :itsok: ...aren't you worried about the return of plastic drinking straws in Federal facilities?

Re: the Corrupt Foreign Practices Act... you don't think that foreigners bribe OUR people all the time? They're called Lobbyists. I mean... c'mon... how do you think all of those Democrat career politicians grew so rich and fat on a poor elected official's salary?

Re: the firing of the Ethics Office director... more fluff and overreach... besides... all executives serve at the pleasure of the President anyway... and now the customary start-of-term leadership purge has merely reached down into middle-management levels.

Re: the firing of the head of the Whistleblower Protection program... ditto... it's just another middle-management position, and, as with the Ethics Office, it's just a management shake-up; it's not like the Office itself has been abolished as fluff or useless overhead.

Trump does, indeed, raise eyebrows with some of his actions, but... all of this? ... not really... rather embarrassingly lame, eh?

In case you hadn't noticed in November... a very large percentage of the American Voting Public is sick of Democrat bull$hit.

Do a better job of picking your battles... save your waning political strength for the Big Ticket Items... yer gonna need it.

The most disturbing aspect of all this is trumples HAVE been listening and they are perfectly fine with trump ignoring the constitutional order on the way to becoming all powerful. Steamrolling Congress, the courts, and ultimately the public.

Trump has just taken a $25m bribe from Zuckerberg....

In fairness Trump & Co weaselled it out of him... But there was no way they were going to win in court... He was told if you want to be in with the Administration, pay up.... Zuckerberg paid it to Trump Presidential Library, which is a slush fund for Trump..

That is what we call a bribe, plain and simple...

P.S. Please don't say but Biden.... Please have actual evidence that has been verified under oath at least.

When you are doing business in a foreign country you have to do things the way they do them in that country. What Americans call a "bribe" is common and accepted in many countries of the world, including Mexico, if anyone care to pay attention.

Did I mention New York City?
