(Bloomberg) -- The owner of the Trump International Hotel Waikiki is rebranding the property, buying out a licensing agreement with the former US president’s company and joining Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc.’s system.

Real estate firm Irongate is renaming its hotel Wakea Waikiki Beach and will operate under LXR Hotels & Resorts, a brand that allows hotels to access Hilton’s loyalty and distribution engines while maintaining an independent identity.

The conversion of the property, which has 462 guest rooms and suites, will take place in February, according to a statement Friday.

The Hawaii hotel isn’t the first to ditch the Trump brand. Properties in New York, Toronto and Panama City have all rebranded in the years since Donald Trump launched his political career.

I would imagine that people avoid the Trump brand to avoid being associated with the man.

It was during the pandemic but I was at the Bellagio. I drove over to the Trump property and walked into the lobby. The music over the speakers in the lobby were playing TAPS. It was that dead.

I found out from my buddy who booked convention rooms for The Cosmopolitan that Trump Las Vegas was very popular with non-smokers who cannot deal with cigarette smoke. Why? Because, since Trump is barred from ever again getting a casino license due to his criminality, there's no reason to allow any smoking in the hotel.

I'll take your word for it on that. Maybe it's just me...I was never impressed by Las Vegas. Has nothing to do with Trump or whomever. I just never "got it". You can gamble. Wow. When I first went there, after about 15 minutes of looking at the lights, I was royally bored.

The best time I had there was by accident. When I went to the Bellagio, I got hungry so I went down to the lobby. There is this restaurant there...I forget the name...but I think it was called the supper club or something. Anyway, I get a salmon with truffle potatoes and some asparagus. The meal is fantastic. Loved every bite of it. Then...out of nowhere, this stage show starts up with these two performers. I didn't remember seeing an ad for it outside in the lobby or anything.... Wonderful night.
