If you can't recognize the other exists, how do you negotiate anything else? Where do they go from here?

Hamas rejects Quartet terms, says official
May 05, 2014

GAZA: Hamas will never recognize Israel and will not accept the conditions laid out by the Middle East peacemaking Quartet, according to the movement’s deputy leader.

Speaking late on Saturday, Mussa Abu Marzuq said Hamas, which recently signed a reconciliation deal with the Western-backed Palestinian leadership in the occupied West Bank, would never agree to recognize Israel. “We will not recognize the Zionist entity,” he said at a press conference in Gaza City.

Under terms of the deal, Gaza’s Hamas rulers and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) of President Mahmoud Abbas are to work together to form a new unity government which will prepare for national elections.

But Israel reacted furiously, saying it would not negotiate with any government backed by Hamas, whose charter calls for the destruction of the Jewish state, effectively putting the final nail in the coffin of the latest round of US-brokered peace talks. Recognizing Israel is one of the key conditions laid out in the 2003 peacemaking roadmap of the Middle East Quartet, which brings together the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia.

The other two key demands are a renunciation of violence and acceptance of all prior agreements with Israel.

Abbas, who is to head the new government, to consist of political independents, has insisted it will abide by all three principles.

But Abu Marzuq said Hamas would never accept the Quartet’s conditions.

“Hamas rejects the Quartet’s conditions because it denies some of our people’s rights,” he told reporters.

“We will always refuse any conditions that deny our Palestinian rights.”

He also said the question of disarming Hamas’s armed wing, the Ezzedine Al Qassam Brigades, was “never mentioned” in talks with the PLO since the unity deal was inked on April 23.

“No one asked to discuss this,” he said. Azzam Al Ahmad, a senior member of Abbas’s Fatah movement, which dominates the PLO, was to arrive in Gaza City on Sunday or Monday to begin consultations on forming the new government, he said.

Is this to go on for another 66 years? Israel should give them 48 hours to make a decision. After that all bets are off. Course, I'm not in charge. Just sayin'.

This has made a fair amount of movement from about a year ago (last I was was following this). When I say 'movement' I don't mean in a good way. Not in a good way at all. :(

I thought Israel wanted to negotiate without pre-conditions.

Lefties will find a way to blame jews for this.

Hamas won't recognise Israel, accept Quartet terms

Not this leftie. Just to show my ignorance, when the Hamas and the PLO make nice?

Last week, to little fanfair from the liberal media. However John Kerry did call israel a potential apartheid state if they didn't make peace with the palestinians, though half of the palistinian government is committed to the destruction of israel as reinforced here.

Except for that "Kill all Jews" pre-condition.

As a progressive liberal, it makes me swoon at the death of all the world's jews. See, I'm a prancing *****, and I think if I give jihadis what they want, they will embrace gay marriage and communism!

Just searched a little and could not find what I was looking for. You know what Hezbollah is up to these days?

b: to arrange for or bring about through conference, discussion, and compromise <negotiate a treaty>

According to the Palestinian the Palestinians don't have to " negotiate". This time he's using the word so ask what the Palestinians are doing to " negotiate" there will be no response. :D

Oh, right. How could I forget that one. Last I had seen Nasrallah was trying to move into Syria but both Lebanon and Hezbollah itself was not liking the idea. Well, in that case... (I'm not even going to say it.)

That and planting missiles south of the Al Litani River. Can't leave that one out. :)

Time for a UN brokered peace deal using deadly force so that hamas understands that the only way forward is to sit down and talk. Tell Israel and Egypt that they can stand down as the UN peace keepers are now in control and they will shoot anyone that approaches the borders closer than 50 metres. The civilised world is sick of pandering to the Palestinians and are stopping all aid as we speak, this will starve them to the peace table whether they like it or not.

Just like an explosive bowel movement in the middle of an interview, that kind of bad ?

I thought Israel wanted to negotiate without pre-conditions.

So what pre conditions have been mentioned then, other than those already dictated by the UN resolutions.

What the Palestinian doesn't mention is that the Palestinians demand Pre Conditions . Ask what offers the Palestinians have made that Israel rejected and there will be no response. :cuckoo:

Indeed, UN resolutions.

Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples

1. The subjection of peoples to alien subjugation, domination and exploitation constitutes a denial of fundamental human rights, is contrary to the Charter of the United Nations and is an impediment to the promotion of world peace and co-operation.

2. All peoples have the right to self-determination; by virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development.

3. Inadequacy of political, economic, social or educational preparedness should never serve as a pretext for delaying independence.

4. All armed action or repressive measures of all kinds directed against dependent peoples shall cease in order to enable them to exercise peacefully and freely their right to complete independence, and the integrity of their national territory shall be respected.

5. Immediate steps shall be taken, in Trust and Non-Self-Governing Territories or all other territories which have not yet attained independence, to transfer all powers to the peoples of those territories, without any conditions or reservations, in accordance with their freely expressed will and desire, without any distinction as to race, creed or colour, in order to enable them to enjoy complete independence and freedom.

6. Any attempt aimed at the partial or total disruption of the national unity and the territorial integrity of a country is incompatible with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

7. All States shall observe faithfully and strictly the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the present Declaration on the basis of equality, non-interference in the internal affairs of all States, and respect for the sovereign rights of all peoples and their territorial integrity.
