Can't have the little people outsmarting the police state....No sir!

This has nothing to do with plate readability, it has EVERYTHING to do with blocking AI tracking.

I bet they would scream bloody murder if a law was proposed that tracks all movement of elected politicians and makes it available to the public that elected them.

Here in Pennsylvania, apparently the process of making license plates (no longer done by convicts) was flawed 8-10 years ago, and many PA license plates have lost, or are losing, their paint. There is no law that demands license plates be legible, so many of us Pennsylvanians are just letting the plates deteriorate to total illegibility. I don't know whether machines can read them or not.

They do offer sporadically little "events" where you can go in and get your plate re-painted, but there is no compulsion to do so. I personally would - if my plate needed it - because a deteriorated plate is just untidy.

Lol, ya the age of big brother is already here. Yep, tracking your license plate. Facial recognition, gait recognition, and cell phone tracking. Ya don't even get away from it in the woods. Trail cams every where. I find trail cams even on property I have leases on. My group supposed to be only ones hunting it. Yet I find trail cams that don't belong there most trips into the properties. But hey, ya only have to worry if ya have something to hide right?

It seems reasonable to me for a state to ban the modification of the appearance of its state issued license plate in any way.

Back in 1977 or 1978 a friend and I drove down to Virginia, I was surprised to see signs posted that the use of radar detectors wasn't permitted. Now that seemed intrusive.

That's a short term scare. We won't have enough electricity for all that AI, and then we'll be driving less with more expensive fuel. Later there may be debates about wearing hoodies as pedestrians.

Every state has rules that govern vehicle registration. How it is renewed and how much it costs.

In every state you are required to register your vehicle to drive it on a public highway or roadway.

It is an offense in every state to tamper, alter, or block your registration plate to avoid detection.

If you’re worried about being tracked, register your car in a company name, or your friends name. There is no state that requires the driver to be the registered owner and in most states, the registered owner doesn’t even have to have a license. Only the driver must be licensed.
