Hello. Just wondering what the board's general impression is, of the organization known as the Gun Owners of America. I donated to them a few times. Seems that they are different NRA. What is your impression of them? Thanks.

Any organization that can stop, interfere, or eliminate the left's misuse of government to take away a right, natural and legal, is doing valued advocacy for the Constitution.

I have had weaponry all my life, but I only donated to licensed gun dealers, and to a couple of states for hunting license and carry permit. Oh, and to the Commonwealth of Kentucky for my updated digital birth certificate, as my original birth certificate from McCracken County Kentucky, complete in every way, including foot print, signatures, and raised Kentucky state seal was unacceptable to State of Tennessee and the Department of Homeland Security, when I received my carry permit. Even though perfectly acceptable to the US Army and included in every SF 86 form I ever filled out or submitted for updates for additional Security Clearance upgrades over the years.

The NRA's bunny-boiler ex.

See title. Seems that they are for different areas, the Gun Owners of America is more about litigation and the NRA is more for lobbying and political activism. Which do you think is more effective at upholding the 2nd amendment? Thanks.

I left the NRA years ago. Wayne LaPierre ruined it. GOA is a much better group.

Thanks for your sentiment Dark, and I completely agree with the spirit! However, if you HAD to choose one, which would you choose?

Thanks for sharing, White!

Now, I am not American, so I am a bit confused. I mean, I can sort of understand if your state government isn't happy with your birth certificate, but what does the DHS have to do with it? Aren't they a federal agency? And in fact, isn't DHS more concerned with matters like catching domestic terrorists, that sort of thing? Why is it any of their business that someone from Kentucky has a birth certificate that's a bit tattered? In fact, come to think of it, what the heck does the DHS do? Sounds like they are one more alphabet-soup agency that the federal government felt compelled to create because the control they had over Americans wasn't enough.

Thank you Lock for the speedy response! And if I may inquire, in what ways did Lapierre ruin NRA, and in what ways is GOA better than GOA?

Thanks!

LaPierre was corrupt and compromised and stayed far, far too many years. He spent millions on personal items; jet travel, clothes, etc.
GOA is a smaller but more efficient organization. And has fought hard against compromises that the NRA shrugged their shoulders at.

GOA is OK for muscle but the SAF is more effective by a mile.....The NRA is pretty much dead.

It pays to join SAF as they are always in the forefront of prime pro-2A rulings and their members (often the named plaintiffs) are sometimes the only ones that can avail themselves of whatever is enjoined.

An example was the brace ruling, SAF (and I think GOA, VCDL) members were able to put braces back on their weapons six months before anyone else.

Your money does not go to support a shiny temple of a NRA HQ in NOtVA either....SAF operates out of a low key building about the size of a small dental practice.....That they share.

Of course VCDL is a good one for Virginians to join. They just helped get private sales in Virginia declared GTG again. :)

Hi 1srelluc,

Thanks for the post, and thanks for introducing these new organizations that I have never heard of (SAF and VCDL). Now, you mentioned that SAF operates out of a small office the size of a dental practice...can I ask you how you know that? Have you actually been there yourself?

Thanks, :)

Nothing "new" about the SAF.....SAF was founded in 1974 by Alan Gottlieb.

Before I spent my money (years ago) I checked SAF out. It's very well run.

Back then, DHS was involved in the background check process, and it was apparently more than just a national agency check, though nowhere near like a national security background check, where they put people in the field, interviewing employers, past/present clergy, teachers, even the husband and wife that ran the very small country grocery store, where I grew up, as a kid. No. 1 on the birth certificate file, is that proof of citizenship. I figure, since the birth certificate itself had changed to a newer supposedly more secure form and design, including new features, it became their policy to only accept the newest computerized version. If you are wondering what that looks like, think of the picture of Obama's birth certificate, published back when that idiot trump tried saying he was from Kenya. I have dealt with at least three of the US alphabet soup agencies, in this country and while stationed in Europe, and the difference is daylight and dark. They know literally everything about you, just to act in reliance, where at least two have been the worst type of casual, intentional liars, just as part of trained trade craft. DHS (new kids on the block) looks like the nice guys by comparison, or did until this administration. Now, I don't know.

Thanks for the response.

So, I looked up Alan Gottlieb in Wikipedia, and it said that he tried to expand the background check and it received support from Democrat senate and then president Obama. This doesn't sound too good to me.

If you donated to them a few times, then you must certainly have an impression. What is it?

Meh, don't join the SAF then....Stick with the do-nothing Fudds at the NRA. 😐

DHS and their "homeland" WWII goofy name should be disbanded. Today.

I see, thanks for explaining. It appears that I still have a lot to learn about your country.

Btw, if I may ask: Are you aware of the difference/s between Gun Owners of America, and the Second Amendment Foundation? Which do you think is better? Thanks.

Not familiar. In conservative Tennessee, I never had to worry about it.
