It is a total fake. Blinded by the heart-warming change of East´s mindset, the viewer totally forgets that he doesn´t and nobody else wants to live in such a nasty neighborhood where people get killed for the tiniest "reason".

That the gangs are evil is clear in the movie though that they kill people he likes the good boy the cute girl and the loving asian family who give him food not the gangsters and murderers i think its clear in the movie

If "good immigrants" come with deadly killers, we have to say no to them. That is the message.

After his wife died, Walt had withdrawn from society.
Those two Hmong kids made him part of their family and the local community.

Walt was suffering from terminal cancer and this act was his solution to save those kids.

Yesterday i watched Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood

Really good movie

Gran Torino was definitely not Eastwood's best movie. I preferred him in the Dirty Harry and western movies (Pale Rider, Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven).

It was an entertaining Clint Eastwood film, but personally I prefer Dirty Harry and Fistful of Dollars.

It is a solid movie, not one of Clint's best - but the comedy scenes are just hilarious.
After fighting in Korea, Walt is a hardened racist against Asian people. Which is understandable given what American soldiers saw in that brutal "forgotten" war.
Other than Asians. Walt is a separatist. Doesn't have anything against other races, but clearly believes they should be separate.
In the movie Walt sees he has more in common, especially family values, with the Hmong than his own family. He develops a bond with one Hmong weak kid and tries to teach him how to be a man.
