Nobody's "in charge of the KKK". It officially disbanded in 1944. Everything after that is autonomous local groups playing dress-up. There is no national Klan.

The guy in this story, from what I read, started his own chapter (like David Duke did) and was in serious conflict with other "klans".

Why not tell us WHY he was in serious conflict with the other klans? Don't you want to help make Dean the Dumbass feel better about himself? Because I make it a point not to post beyond my knowledge. I didn't really get the details about who was who and why they had conflicts, or if it was simple jealousy or whatever. I could have delved into it but it wasn't that interesting. At the time -- before the stepson thing came out -- it sounded like a possible motive for the killing but apparently not.

Anyway the point was that there is no "national KKK" and that whatever this guy was doing was his own circle, one of many decentralized such circles. Such conflicts and jealousies between such circles are not at all uncommon.

No idea what any of that has to do with RDean though. Maybe I missed something.

Yep, that's part of what I had read, or glossed over, thanks. Obviously there's more to be known below that if one wanted to delve but I didn't see it as that crucial to anybody outside his personal circle.

The larger point is well taken that we slap labels at our peril, whether they be "Klan" or "Republican" or "Liberal" or whatever. Tends to slam the door, tightly, on any opportunity for deeper understanding and context. Of course, that's why label-slappers do slap those labels on --- they'd like to avoid that deeper context.
