Correct. Neither party is serious about the debt and haven't been since the 90s.
In my mind, a country's decline can be observed when it sustains a series of crises it never really recovers from. That's what I've seen over the last 25 years.
After 9/11, what was our response? Two foreign wars that lasted two decades. Did we pay for those? No. In fact, we
cut taxes during that time. Not once but twice.
We had the worst financial crisis since 1932. We bailed out banks, the auto industry, suppliers, and we extended unemployment. Did we raise taxes to offset the loss of revenue and the expenditures? Nah. Did we prosecute the bullshitters responsible for the obvious fraud that led to the crisis? Nah.
And then COVID. Rinse, repeat.
We should be talking about the national debt, the rise of BRICS to challenge the US standing in the world, our environmental crises, and probably many other things, but here we are talking about whether or not our current president and one of our previous president's had sex with teenagers. And probably both party partisans would defend both if it was revealed they did.
America is not a serious country in 2025.
