Well,
As platforms, they were given legal protection by Congress that keeps them from suffering from lawfare or coordinated lawsuits by the things that individuals publish on their platform. Only the individuals themselves are subject to litigation for what they post on these "platforms".

But since they have been editing political speech....they need to either be fined into submission or have the protection removed so that individuals may sue them.

It depends upon what area you are using the search engine from. They operate on zones....not any different from changing hosting servers and having to send a new DNS address out a week ahead to ensure that it's updated across the network. They operate in zones as well.
