Rich LeTourneau is blunt as he sets down his beer on the union hall bar, located just a stone's throw away from the General Motors plant in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he's put in 38 years.

"I respect Canadian unions, I respect the Mexican union. We didn't raise our hand and say … 'I'll take what you guys got.' That decision was made way above our head," he told CBC News.

"But when the company comes to me to increase volume, I'm not gonna tell them no, either, because it's job security for my people, and hell, if I can corner the market, I will."

GM announced in early April it was adding workers to its Fort Wayne plant, just days after U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans for a 25 per cent tariff on finished vehicles and some auto parts — targeting one of the most lucrative manufactured products sold by Canada.

A month later, GM Canada said it was cutting one of three shifts at its Oshawa Assembly; some 750 of its 3,000 workers are set to be laid off come Jan. 30, plus hundreds more throughout the surrounding supply chain.

Both the Oshawa and Fort Wayne assemblies — along with a GM factory in Silao, Mexico — build light-duty Chevy Silverado pickup trucks. Oshawa also builds heavy-duty Silverados, while Fort Wayne builds GMC Sierra pickups.

Interesting. My brother used to be a VP of HR in Manufacturing. He told me once years ago that companies didn't want to move to Indiana because of Mike Pence. He's such a religious nut. For example, companies didn't want to move to states with shitty schools. Shitty schools means shitty employees. And even executives don't want to move to a anti choice state.

These red states don't invest in their people or infrastructure.

But I'm happy now this is how things work. We need to take advantage of uneducated blue collar workers and the best place to do that is right to work red states.

Mr Trump also said the tariffs on upholstered furniture would increase by 30 per cent, and cabinets and vanities would rise 50 per cent by January 1 for countries unable to reach an agreement with the US.

He also announced an additional tariff of 10 per cent on timber and lumber.

CSIS doesn't clean it up and politicians who have high school diplomas are elected as Premier.

Look how Trump was on Russia's side in the beginning of his presidency. He had to realize Putin was playing him before he started backing Ukraine. Now he says "i think Ukraine can win this war" Before he said Ukraine didn't have the cards to win. Better late than never I guess.

You should move here. It really is wonderful. I like Canada but even with a fascist authoritarian dictator, I'd still rather be an American.
