GM has new EV battery tech

My god American car companies can still innovate. GM coming out with new EV battery and not only that it will be made in America.

We are supposed to get a new related factory assuming Trump doesn't kill it completely. My understanding is that they are supposed to make all the non-fuel components of EV batteries.

Trump is not anti-electric. He is not into forced electric.
He froze the $100M federal kick-in for the building of the $2Bish factory. I don't know if he has unfrozen it. At the time they said it was a threat to the project but I have not heard them say it is officially doomed yet either.

LOL....If 100M in taxpayer money on a 2B plant is a "threat" then maybe it does not need to be built.

My guess they planned to use it to pay-off the unions (or other such grift) and that is why it was frozen.

Tax breaks need to be from the state/county, not the US taxpayer.

That’s only 5% of the total cost of the factory.

If you’re claiming you can’t build your magic factory because 5% of the funding pulled out … you were NEVER going to build that factory and the money was always going into someone’s pocket.

It isn't my factory and I only know what I read in the new coverage. I have no connection with the project and I don't know anything about its financing other than that other than generally it takes a lot of economic development money to get factories to come into this area and even then they may not show up, may not hire as many people as promised, and may go away as quickly as they came.

The reality is … a politician will spend taxpayer dollars to entice businesses to come to his fiefdom.

It’s good for him. He can say to the voters, “Lookee here what I brung you”.

It’s good for the businesses, they get free taxpayer money to do what they were going to do anyway with their own money.

It’s typically not that good for the taxpayers. If the tax base is large, then most of the tax base won’t see any appreciable return on that money. If the tax base is small, then most taxpayers will pay a disproportionate amount compared to their return.

If a business says they won’t build anywhere without tax incentives, then they were never interested in building anything. They were just after the incentives.

If an idea is a good idea it doesn’t need incentives to get off the ground.
