You would think that in 2025 this would no longer be a problem. Why do people continue to believe they can stuff anything down their pie hole and still be healthy?

"Approximately 60 to 70 million Americans suffer from gastrointestinal (GI) diseases, while over 40% of the global population experiences chronic GI issues."

So, 70,000,000 being only 20.5% of US population, we actually do something right, healthwise? Cool.

I have Crohn's Disease. So did my mom. It comes with a strong genetic component. So am I sick bc I "stuff anything down my pie hole"?

When a nation adds chemicals and preservatives to their food, do we think this isnt going to happen? All the chemicals have bad effects. Its indisputable. But keep shoving fast food down your throats and hope for a better outcome.

Yes there are preservatives in many foods plus there is also a high amount of sugar in many foods. Eating healthy is the key to eliminating many colon problems.

It's called "getting old" ... I like to think of this as GI successes ... instead of problems ... and I eat a lot of tacos ... gives the GI tract something else to talk about ...

That's just the number that's being treated. Millions more have GI problems that are treated with OTC concoctions (been there, done that).

People with genetic predispositions are excused from my criticism.

About 1 million suffer from Crohn's, too small a cohort to affect my argument.

How far back in your family did Crohn's appear?

to some extent these sorts of conditions are, on paper, rising so much because:

A) people are living much longer

B) more frequent and technologically improved diagnostic screening means conditions that have always been widespread and went undiagnosed are now being diagnosed and treated

both of these are actually good things

When I saw the title, I assumed a very different subject

If we could just define "healthy eating".

We suspect my maternal grandmother had it, and maybe my paternal grandfather too. Beyond that it's hard to say.

At least that's one area where I'm GTG.....Regular as the sunrise. :)
Doctor: "Now then, about your problem with bowel movements?"
Patient: "I have the most enjoyable and complete bowel movements regularly at 6 a.m. each morning."
Doctor: "So, what's the problem?"
Patient: "I don't get up until 7 a.m."
