This Jim Crow relic rule just needs to go away. There was a bunch of head coaching openings and they filled up with randoms (most jobs were at teams that totally stink).. but of course the ESPN token blacks were only concerned that none of the new coaches were black. I guess in their minds there must be a certain amount of black coaches in the NFL, regardless of their credentials, connections, etc.

So, basically.. DEI in sports.

I'd love for these same ESPN guys to argue for the same rule in the NBA, and we must have a defined number of white NBA players on rosters or else the league has problems with racism. LOL

The Rooney Rule started in 2003.
Head coaching jobs are usually available for teams that are bad. Good teams more often keep their coaches (not always, of course).
If this is sports DEI, and the only minority candidate that got a job as a HC is Saleh...does that mean DEI doesn't actually put unqualified minorities into positions?
There are absolutely some double standards when it comes to race and sports.

They have to interview at least 2 candidates for a handful of jobs who are a minority or female. It isn't like they are required to hire either one. As for what ESPN blathers on about, who cares.

The Rooney rule is the only reason that the thoroughly mediocre Dennis Green hung around as long as he did.

No it isn't. They were required to interview minority candidates, not hire and retain minority candidates.

I figured this issue would rear it ugly head since the SB will have no black head coaches and the fad is hiring young white "wonderkinder" head coaches.

When was the last time you watched an NBA game? There are quite a few white guys now.

I heard one guy blame Trump. Perhaps others did. Offensive minded coaches are in demand. And most of them are younger white guys who have used the current complicated rules to maximize offense production output. And that does not work for all of them either. Adjusting may make the difference in a game. It's like they are video game nerds. And they are not.
