Students told American history is "oppressive"
George Washington University has eliminated its United States history requirement for history majors in order to attract more students in our “globalizing” world.

The university has adopted a policy now in place at roughly one-third of the nation’s top colleges and universities, making an American history course optional rather than mandatory for declared history majors.

One of the most important things is coming here and hearing about our history, our language and our roots; because getting to know yourself means you start to discover new things; you realize who you really are. You realize that Roma have a rich history, rich culture, “barvale” (rich in Romanes) Roma role models who guide us. Knowing our history and culture helps us construct our identity and build a sense of pride around being part of the Roma nation. It gives us an opportunity to speak in one language and to have one vision about our future.

They stopped making it a REQUIREMENT. They did not stop teaching it, amirite? So the thread's title is misleading (downright wrong). I have nothing against US History, and I think it's dumb to get rid of it as a requirement, although two sections of it oughta cover things fine. If the foreign students don't like it, they can suffer through it same as I suffered through Human Bio. to be a teacher. Ugh. Not all of college is a bowl of cherries.
