Okay, I will quote from your link and then unpack it.
His proposed amendment would have codified a national age-based gun ban by raising the minimum age to buy a firearm to 21 from 18. It would have also mandated universal background checks, which are unworkable without a national firearm registry. That’s prohibited by federal law. And the amendment would have also implemented a mandatory waiting period for all firearm purchases, immediately delaying the ability of law-abiding Americans to exercise their rights. It would have also banned ownership of Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs), or as California’s antigun politicians falsely label them – “assault weapons.”
California has a firearm death rate of 8.0 per 100,000. The United States has a firearm death rate of 13.7. It looks to me like we may have something to learn from California.
"unworkable without a national firearm registry".
Well, I would say that's exactly why Newsom proposed an amendment to the Constitution. It would be applicable to the whole country. Duh!
Universal background checks are overwhelmingly supported by Americans, including gun owners. Only the rabid NRA opposes them for God know why. They used to support gun control measures in the past.
"It would have also banned ownership of Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs)".
"Sporting Rifles"
snicker
I have never seen anyone hunt with an AR-15 except for other humans and pests. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but an AWB would not bring hunting to a screeching halt.
"raising the minimum age to buy a firearm to 21 from 18"
I wonder how many more school shootings it will take for the holdout knuckleheads to see the wisdom of this idea.
If a kid wants to go hunting with dad, or plink some cans with dad, I have no problem supporting a carve-out allowing adult supervision while using a firearm.
I've taken all my kids out shooting, including with an AR-15. From the age of 6. And I intensely schooled them in gun safety beforehand. Literally with a chalkboard. More than once.
Now I have a couple links of my own:
The McCourtney Institute for Democracy’s latest Mood of the Nation Poll, conducted from May 12-18, 2023, finds that 86 percent of American adults support U.S. Congress mandating background checks for all firearm sales and transfers.
Nearly three-quarters support Congress requiring gun owners to take a test, obtain a license and register their firearms, similar to the process of owning an automobile.

.
It is noteworthy that the three firearm-restricting provisions included in this poll are supported by a majority of those who support eliminating “most current gun laws in order to protect Second Amendment rights.” Among these Second Amendment advocates, 77 percent support universal background checks, 60 percent support a testing, licensing and registering process for guns similar to that of automobiles, and 52 percent support an assault weapons ban.
Americans support 74 - 24 percent raising the minimum legal age to buy any gun to 21 years old nationwide, according to a Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pea-ack) University national poll of adults released today. Democrats (91 - 7 percent), independents (76 - 22 percent), and Republicans (59 - 39 percent) all support raising the minimum legal age to buy any gun to 21 years old nationwide.
