For fans of Eric Clapton.......

There's a fantastic video on YouTube of Eric and his band at Budokan, Japan from February 25th, 2009. Eric is in fine form, as are the rest of the musicians. Definitely check this out if you're a fan!
The Eric Klapner?

This might surprise you, but I've never been all that impressed with Eric. He was strictly a blues guitarist IMO who peaked in the 60s. Sure, he played soulfully and with emotion, but IMO, probably one of the best things he ever did (at least for me) was to step out from the Yardbirds--- that action resulting in a girlfriend of one of the other members going to him and her suggesting that they give her older brother a listen in consideration of Eric's replacement as she thought his guitar playing might be up to the task.

They really liked and hired her brother, which was Jeff Beck, IMO, a far, far better guitarist, and in effect, pretty much launched Jeff's career.

Clapton has always been one of my favorite guitarists. I liked his work while in Cream. But one of my favorite songs is Lay Down Sally because it's so upbeat.

Well to be fair, Derek & the Dominos was rough times for him, culminating in the death of Jimi Hendrix who was a close, personal friend. Eric actually went out and bought Jimi a premium, honest left-hand guitar as a gift for him the day before Jimi died, so Jimi never even got to see much less play it. I bet Eric never sold the guitar.

It wouldn't surprise me if depression dogged Clapton for many years after that.
