The better and workable solution would be for folks like you to become billionaires, then give away all you wealth to the "poor" to feed them (and buy their TVs, SUVs, etc.) and there would be no need for government and/or it's taxes to do such.

Instead of relying on cliches, let's examine the economic impact of 'food stamps". It might be socially acceptable but it's a stalemate at best as far as the economy goes. Taxpayer money going to purchase food for people including non citizens who don't pay taxes is a negative as far as the economy goes. When you factor in the bureaucratic cost of producing and regulating the food stamp program it's worse.
