Wouldn't say that, but one of my close friends from HS, his father was a pretty connected bookie in South Florida. Part of the Columbo family. In my 20s in the 90s we used to go to a place called Croc's Boca. It was owned by Lefty. We would close the place down 3 or 4 nights of the week. David Rose (Pete Rose's brother) would meet us a lot.
We would also hang out at a place called Anthony's Runway 84 in Fort Lauderdale. Owned by a guy named Anthony Bruno. His father was the long time maître d at The Copa in New York. That is where I met Franzese and had dinner a dozen times or so.
Being acquaintances doesn't mean "connected" necessarily.

Interesting thing about Franzese. He told us this story that he tells here about Henry Hill in prison.
The interesting thing about him is he really gives you the unromanticized life in organized crime. He does talks about it as a cautionary tale to prisoners etc. He is a rather devout Christian. He really is.
