Opposing Authoritarian Ideological Fundamentalism.
Perhaps the biggest mistake the Democrats made after Obama first won was to assume that America's changing demographics assured that the culture war was essentially over, and that they pretty much had a free ride going forward. Hell, after all, young people lean left, and Hispanics and Blacks were in the bag.

Oops.

Turns out that Hispanics are a little more conservative overall than the Dems assumed, and that Blacks are not a sure vote. But here's an interesting piece on "Flagstock", a festival that is going directly after young white males, not a small group. The Dems' commitment to PC/Identity Politics has certainly put this demographic group on the defensive ("white privilege", "toxic masculinity"), and now we're seeing predictable result: They're not thrilled. Thus, a NYT poll shows a 51-point gender gap in the swing states.

MAGA doesn't like to admit that resentment is a primary driving force behind its movement, but it's powerful as hell. The Dems just dismiss the PC/Identity Politics stuff out of hand and mock it, because it's so central to their overall thesis. I've been talking about this since I've been on this board. I just didn't expect it to manifest this strongly.

Thoughts?

In modern times human beings have become products to be sold to corporations, instead of customers to buy from corporations. Use a cell phone flash light app? Your website history, your location history, even the funny sounds you make while having an orgasm now for sale, to be quantified and categorized.

I think that in some ways, what you're describing is much the same. Instead of Democrats viewing voters as a customer who needs to buy (i.e. be convinced by) the party's ideas, Democrats see voters as the product to be harvested for quantification and classification. Upon analyzing the data, the party works to figure out how they can extract as much money as possible out of the market. Whether the actual product the put out there is worth a damn is irrelevant.
