Federal funding for University of Maine system frozen after schools violate Title VI and Title IX

On a policy basis, if one believed Education is sole purview of the states, I would agree.

The DoE can exist as an agency that sets basic minimum federal standards so degrees and such can transfer between States.

That's within the purview of the federal government.

It can also handle standards for D.C, as D.C is not a State.

Its irrelevant. MAGA is in midflight to eliminate the Dept of Education already. Soon there will be no money to freeze.
Not so

My understanding is that there will be block grants to the states

Excluding Maine of course

Is the Department resulting in better education or worse than what we had before it was created? That's the salient question. If it's giving us better education, well and good. If not, why are we shoveling billions into another massive federal bureaucracy that's failing us?

Thats what accreditation agencies do, but thats a fair Federal Responsibility. :cheers2:
Personally I don't understand the absolute hate ChristoMAGAs have for the Dept of Ed. Inversely I could care less about the Dept of Ed. Someone has to administer those functions though, as they are funded and LAW.

Why do you think that? Here's the fun part, the D of Ed also manages Student Loans.

As noted I don't care about it. Its functions could be handled by another Department. But the funds are budgeted and what it does is mandated by LAW, so someone has to do them.

You sure spew out a lot of words for someone who "doesn't care" about the subject.

That you have to use a term like ChristoMAGA shows you don't want to understand.

Treasury can handle that.

Yes

That was a Marxist change by the Obama junta

But student loans can and should be private

What legislation is doing this block grant thing?

You know that's a function of law, and laws are passed by Congress. Converting funded programs to "block grants" isn't within the purview of the Office of the President.
