2. And, again, a man who changed our world, born the same day and year as Darwin....Abraham Lincoln. He was born in Hardin Count, Kentucky and moved to Macon County, Illinois when he was 21.

Born on this day in 1775 in London, England, Louisa Catherine Johnson Adams was the only First Lady born outside the U.S. She came to this country four years after she married John Quincy Adams, who was Minister to the Netherlands at the time, and later became President. As First Lady, she hosted Tuesday night receptions to entertain important diplomats.

4. One of the original colonies was founded on this day in 1733 ...and founded for English debtors by social reformer James Oglethorpe. He founded the 13th and final American colony of Georgia, he hoped to resettle Britain's poor, especially those in debtors' prisons, in the New World.

On February 12, 1912, the last Manchu emperor, the child Puyi, abdicated., ending the 270-year-old Qing Dynasty, and 5000 years of absolute monarchy in China.
