The Superbowl has been famous for its star studded and spectacular "family friendly" half time shows.

Which has been your favorite and WHY?

Notable mentions I know of...
Prince?
Freddie Mercury
Black eye Peas?
Janet Jackson?
Tina Turner?

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
And Prince. In the rain. Doing Purple Rain.

I don't think I've watched a super bowl half-time show since The Who performed; whatever year that was. The Who is probably one of about 5 acts that I would have crawled on my hands and knees through broken glass to watch live.

It isn't that I make a statement either way...I just usually don't care much for the music or the performers or the presentation. I remember. I couldn't name a single Bad Bunny song for example.

I wish they would go back to having marching bands. Maybe an "all-star" team of HBCU performers. They'd never forget it, be totally grateful to have the opportunity of a lifetime, won't embarrass the NFL and it would just be inherently a polite thing to do instead of trying to squeeze every nickle out of every millisecond of a telecast.

Aside from the puppy bowl, all of the alternative half time events are inherently lame.

I'm going to have to go with Freddy.

I'll tell you, the TPUSA halftime show is just killing it.

You're missing out on a good one now. Put aside the political stigma and just listen to new, fresh, and raw talent. The show hasn't stopped and it's hitting all the cylinders.

Again, just don't care much for the music. I'm at work and we mute all of the TVs. Absolutely nothing against any performer who is on stage. Enjoy the show.

What I was saying though was that I think they should just take 15 minutes or however long the Halftime show is and do something unusual in this day and age...refuse a bucket of money and just have a marching band from an HBCU, Ohio State, Texas A&M or whever perform.

Your idea has merit. I doubt that the NFL can get away from the commercial aspect of the game. If they did, then there would be no NFL.

However, I think a more neutral halftime show does not exist in this era.

I, myself, would like to watch a recreation of "Picard and Dathon at El-Adrel"

"But the actors would have to be really tall. :)

James Brown, ZZ Topp and the Blues Brothers in the 1997 Superbowl halftime show was entertaining.

Tonight's show could have done better by Sir Mix-A-Lot what with all Dat Ass on display. I was not even listening to that sorry singer.

I did like the F100 PU.

I'm gonna go with Tina Turner myself.
She was all shock and awe....first was the fact that she was sexy hot (by just showing legs and nothing else) and over 50. Second was her vocal command and pure raw talent she demonstrated.
It was family friendly and hit all cylinders. (Whitney being a close second)

Dry humping on stage, wardrobe malfunctions, political speech, and other nonsense is time for me to turn the stupid thing off and not subject my eyes and ears to things that makes me want to improperly use bleach.

The NFL wouldn't miss the money they make from a halftime show on the super bowl.

I'm rather stunned they haven't expanded the halftimes of regular season games to have mini concerts here and there. I imagine at some point they'll move toward that. I never saw a half-time studio show on Amazon Prime ( because I don't subscribe to it) but I can't imagine they are splitting the atom with NFL insight regardless of who the talking heads are.

I've honestly never watched the half-time shows beyond a few minutes. And only occasionally watch the Super Bowl itself.

But I remember one Super Bowl half-time show back in the late '80s specifically because my mom loved her du-op music and all things '50s. Which is probably where I get my appreciation for the era, I imagine.

Anyway, I remember she was on her feet almost the whole time.

It featured "Elvis Presto''lip syncing Elvis Presley songs and everybody dancing and singing in their '50s garb.

That was the year that I learned the 'Mashed Potato"

It was cool just watching her have fun, since she didn't even really like football.

Well, they're reserving that for when they get into one of the romantic European countries. Portugal, Spain, or Italy.
