I don't think he meant subliminal. I think he meant it's a headline that conflicts with his deeply held belief about his daddy politician, who has clearly just betrayed his die-hard base by doing a 180 on everything he ran on and promised them.

This is an attempt to blame the messenger, not the politician.

This is a type of strategy to deal with cognitive dissonance.

I could've sworn that a few days ago some of his supporters claimed that he said he wanted the Iranian people to pick their next leader.

I knew when I heard that that it was a load of bovine excrement. Of course the powers-that-shouldn't-be want to pick the next leader for Iran. That has been the plan for a very long time.
