What adds to the problem is how the NFL purposefully steers teams to play each other on certain nights to up the ratings and make for better games, especially late in the season, rather than it being all totally a roll of the dice.

So naturally, it is only one step farther to wonder if a ref or two does not sometimes skew a call here or there unwittingly in favor of the desired team they like.
