And the opposite of this is the horror of trying to put in a hard to reach bolt/screw when suddenly - "plink plank plink" - Nooooooooooooooooooo

A-Ha! What I was thinking of is called a "ring clip".

Oh yeah those can be tough!! The tool you get them loose with is so dang precarious.
You are right - a lot worse than cotter pins!
And the little ones are easy to bend too.

^That's not a bad one. The bad ones have 2 flat sides that meet up and are holy hell to get on/off even with the proper tool.
If you have the tool those are not a problem.

Oh hell no.
Some of the larger ones that are thick and in the groove tight... the tool can pretty easily squeeze it to get it out...but then you have that moment where you have to hold it open while getting it off the rod - without sending it 100mph across the room.

Or finishing a job you estimate will take 30 minutes in less than 2 hours! 😂😂😂

That's a fact... Multiply any initial estimate by four.

Strangely enough though... it somehow works the other way as well.

I'll procrastinate and fret over some task that I just know is going to be a cast iron B* all day...

...and then it takes 5 minutes.

The Wife and I have found that whatever we think something cost in labor and materials is always a 1/4 to 1/3 more.
