People like this baffle me

Is she so full of self-importance that she thinks she can do as she pleases with no consequences

She’s a 59-year old dentist in the US Air Force (and I suspect a lesbian) who stupidly turned a simple traffic ticket into a felony arrest

This is an educated woman and experience military officer

What goes through the minds of people like this that causes them to act this way?

If convicted, her military career is over and she could wind up with a bad conduct discharge with zero benefits. And from what I saw, it is much deserved.

When it's enlisted personnel getting a DUI, it's not looked upon as severely as when an officer commits the same offense. The officers are expected to be seen as above the enlisted personnel as set an example to the lower ranks; thus the punishment will be harsher.
If you are an enlisted non-commissioned officer, you are punished somewhat harsher than the lower ranked personnel. Again, you are supposed to set an example.

But I suspect being a dentist the worst that will happen is forced retirement
