Elvis Presley Ballads

Elvis is fine. Not one of my favorites. But he did have a unique voice and his own style.

I'd say my favorite song is "In the Ghetto".

Everybody knows all of his popular ones but some of his best stuff is mostly unknown. Here's a couple of good ones off the top of my head...

Elvis is one of America's greatest tragedies.
A story of what could have been. If it wasn't for "The Colonel" and the record companies to control him. If not for the movie industry making pretty terrible movies with Elvis as the star to sell tickets.
Your last video is a testament to this.
I believe "If I can Dream" is his best song. Performing it had a tremendous effect on him.
After that performance, Elvis stated "I will never make another movie I don't believe in, I will sing no more songs I don't believe in".
And he didn't. He finished his last movie in 1969 to do no more.
But, due to a lucrative contract in Vegas, he sang many songs he didn't believe in.
At first Vegas was a great fit for him. It gave him the opportunity to perform without having to tour, something he didn't have the crew or equipment to do. The hotel provided everything.
But it would be disastrous for him.

Colonel Parker controlled Elvis.

Colonel Parker controlled Elvis.
A lot controlled Elvis.
He was not a strong person, and a very emotional one.
He loved-loved to do things for other people, often at his own expense.
And the Colonel knew this oh so well. He took advantage of Elvis's weakness and inability to stand up for himself.

He was The King, nodoubtaboutit.

Mom bought me my first guitar when I was 10. Before she died, she requested that I play Bridge Over Troubled Water for her. It's really a piano tune, but I nailed it on my 12-string guitar. (It's not bragging if you have the tape to prove it.) But, I couldn't sing it in Art Garfunkel's range. I didn't know that Elvis had covered it, and sang it down where I did.

Thanks Elvis!

Most elderstatesguitarists will tell you that The Beatles made them want to play. Elvis Presley for me. The Beatles just made me want to grow my hair long.
